Max Schreck as the Angel of Death in “Hanneles Himelfahrt” (“The Assumption of Hannele”)
I loved the character design they did for The White Witch; I especially loved the fact that she went all badass Boudicca warrior queen at the end of the movie.
The translation reads (loosely, there are a few of them):
“My Parents’ Grave
And if you ask me, so I tell you
It is not far, not far from here
The most beautiful place I have on earth
Is the grassy bank on my parents’ grave.”
This is a snippet of lyrics from the song “Das Elterngrab”, which was apparently very popular around the turn of the 20th century, both in Germany and the Netherlands.
